THE FIREFLY CATCHER

Now that I have finished publishing "Coldiron - The Thieves" I have started a  new novel. I have named it THE FIREFLY CATCHER. It is about the adventures of a rascally fourteen boy and should be fine for both adult and young adult readers. By the way, Coldiron - The Thieves is selling very well. I'm glad that there are still many readers of Western novels. See my site http://fearlparker.com/

Dollars $ $ Vs Length of novels

To all my friends who have ever thought about writing a novel, here's some advice. I now have 22 novels published as ebooks. this after the print version is out of print. My books run from 50,000 words to 118,000 words. I make the same amount of royalty from each book no matter the length. So always write short novels. Half the labor, and it is time consuming labor, to write a novel. My last novel is Coldiron - The T
hieves. Fearlparker.com

A WELCOME REVIEW OF "THE HITCHER"

Fearl,

I realized you had a book out I hadn’t read, "The Hitcher", so I downloaded it from Amazon, read it and once again thoroughly enjoyed the read.  It was entertaining, engaging, and quickly caught me up in the plot.   Had you begun your writing career in your 20’s you might have been another Steven King or Dean Koontz. I am impressed.

Review of Wife Stealer

Today I received a welcome review of Wife Stealer.
"I have just finished Parker's novel, Wife Stealer. Wasn't sure how it would all end, what with such an ugly hero. But the emotion Parker put into the fellow and the girl he was afraid to approach because of his ugliness, and the action had a fine ending. I will try one of his Coldiron series." James Tunney

Cry when characters must die

I recently had an email from Thelma Bittinger, who had read my novel Skinner. She asked if I ever became attached to a character so much that when that character must die to make the story complete, I felt a sadness. The truth of the matter is, that I had tears in my eyes when I had to kill the character Peter Pipe in Skinner.
Another story about the Skinner novel, I was district manager of the Vale District of the Bureau Of Land Management at the time I wrote it. The chairman of my advisory boarad was named Skinner, and so that is how the name came to me. I wasn't sure how he would take my use of his name. But he just laughed and bought one.

Book Sales

I need some advice. Two of my 20 books, The Shadow Man and Winter Woman, outsell the others by a large margin. I have been unable to determine why so that I can use the same approach on the remaining 18. Can anybody tell me the  reason. Is it the cover, the title, or just what? Check Fearlparker.com

Review of The Highbinders

New! Double R reviewed The Highbinders
Highbinders October 21, 2012
F. M. Parker does his usual great writing, that drags the reader out from their cozy reading place, into the raw and demanding wildness of the mid 1800's mountain west.

New review of Girl In Falling Snow

Daryl L. Kerr "Captain Deke" reviewed Girl in Falling Snow
authentic, real feeling setting and genuine characters October 6, 2012
Another good read by Parker. He is just terse enough to be concise but detailed enough to seem real. I have read several of his books and have never been disappointed.

Improving western rangeland

Matt,
When I was district manager for BLM in Richfield Utah District in the 1970's, a graduate student came and did a study for her masters thesis. She studied the composition of plant species before and after a rangeland fire. She found that the composition of plant species was much improved, ie. more species and of a more desirable mix after the fire. That report might be of interest to you and your group. Another bit of info. I did a study when I was chief of resources in the BLM Albuquerque District on how watersheds heal after severe erosion. The major finding was that healing starts at the very top of the watershed, at the very headwaters of each rivulet and works down stream as the increased vegetation lessens the impact raindrops have upon the soil and also holds more moisture to slow runoff. Of course that is what a person should expect if he would but stop and think,.Still many people look for improvement all over the watershed and are disappointed when it is not readily visible. Good luck in your endeavor to improve western rangelands. Fearlparker.com

DREAM HITCHER, my novel number 21 has been published

Dream Hitcher is a violent detective story and a fine love story combined. It is a story about Dan and Kristin, both ex-Marines, who have returned home to the States changed, damaged by their fighting and killing in Iraq and Afghanistan. And it is about Colonel Dream Maker who can lead men into wonderful dreams, and it is about Anubis who can't dream but is addicted to dreaming.
The story begins -
Two white men fought bare-knuckled in an iron cage erected in the vacant end of the warehouse on the Chicago waterfront. Bright lights glare down from overhead and upon the fighters to show their expressions, every blow thrown. The cage was octagonal in shape and thirty feet in diameter. The thin iron rods forming the walls of the cage were spaced eight inches apart and thus provided a clear view of the fighters to the four hundred plus shouting, cursing men and women seated or standing in the tiered bleachers surrounding the cage.
This was not a fight with Marquis of Queensberry rules. The crowd had paid to see blood and they would get it for this was a brutal slugfest without a referee. The fight would continue until one man was beaten so badly that he couldn’t get up from the dirty canvas and must be carried from the cage.

New "DREAM HITCHER, is completed.

My new novel Dream Hitcher has just now been completed at near midnight Tuesday.
It is about the thousands of warriors that have returned from the Afghanistan and Iraq War. Many veterans show horrible wounds, missing arms and legs, disfigured faces. Not visible are the brains damaged by roadside bombs, or warped by the constant fear of being blown all to hell by a bomb, or killed by a sniper’s bullet. This trauma causes terrifying nightmares, and flashbacks. The main character of the story is one of those warriors, Dan Gallatin, who has become a violent, bare knuckle fighter in the cages on the Chicago waterfront.
I should have the story published on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Apple, and the publishers in England. in three or four days. FearlParker.com
